The legendary Mad Professor, born Neil Joseph Stephen Fraser, is a Guyanese musician, considered as the original pioneer of British dub and roots and a leading figure on the international scene for more than three decades. He was given his stage name as a boy due to his fascination with electronics, when he emigrated from Guyana to London and began his music career as a service technician. Mad Professor is nowadays considered as one of the leading producers of dub music’s second generation. In his long and accomplished career, he has produced a discography that includes several undisputed cult albums, and has collaborated with reggae artists such as Lee “Scratch” Perry, Sly and Robbie, Pato Banton, Jah Shaka and Horace Andy, as well as artists outside the realm of traditional reggae and dub, such as Sade, Massive Attack and The Orb.
